The Logistics and Delivery Committee
About the committee
The Logistics and Delivery Committee oversees the East African side of our operations. It is responsible for the smooth running of the project during the summer, the nature of our project and how we deliver it, and ensuring the safety of our volunteers.
Ensuring our school partnerships achieve our Goals
Managing relationships with our partners
Project logistics and resourcing
An opportunity for personal development
The Logistics and Delivery Committee sits at the heart of the EPAfrica project, and is instrumental in determining how and where we carry out our project to have the greatest impact possible. Volunteering on this committee will provide you with the experience of the design and delivery of projects in developing country contexts, including areas such as risk management, and monitoring and evaluation. Such experience is in high demand and often a prerequisite for jobs in the international development sector. What’s more, it provides the opportunity to shape EPAfrica’s project, giving volunteers the ability to tangibly contribute to our overall impact in East Africa with our partner schools.
Logistics and Delivery Roles
The Logistics and Delivery Committee will meet (virtually) as a group once a month and is chaired by the Director of Logistcis and Delivery, who sits on the Board of Directors. The committee consists of Managers, Officers and Associates and will include members of the University Societies who have responsibilities for logistics. Managers and Officers have a defined portfolio of responsibilities that they lead and coordinate. These roles are a great opportunity to make an impact on a defined area. Associates responsibilies are more fluid, and they volunteer flexibily on specific projects throughout the year.
These roles occupy an essential part of EPAfrica’s project - without them, the summer simply cannot happen! As such, a huge amount of responsibility is placed upon us to ensure that we deliver a safe and successful summer for all of our volunteers and partner schools. There is a need to be flexible and a good problem-solver, responding effectively to changes in both East Africa and the UK. The work does not finish at the end of the summer, either. Many of these roles are responsible for applying lessons we learn during our project, and improving our delivery in the years to come. This is a hugely rewarding opportunity to shape how EPAfrica operates in-summer, and to tailor our project to have maximum impact and be the best experience possible for our volunteers and partners in East Africa.

Become a logistics and programme associate
In addition to the roles defined above you can also join the Logistics and Programme Committee's 'Pool' as an Associate. As an Associate, you will volunteer flexibly throughout the year, committing to a variety of activities in the short-term on an ad-hoc basis. Associates attend monthly committee meetings, and volunteer for specific task as their availability allows. This model enables the Logistics and Programme Committee to deploy volunteers responsively to grab opportunities and quickly address any emerging issues or risks.
The Committee will delegate self-contained projects to the pool, such as goals case studies, but you will also find yourself supporting Managers and Officers at key points in the year when the delivery of their responsibilities require all hands on deck - for example when booking flights. Lastly, sometimes more heads on a problem means a better result and each Committee has a number of sub-working groups addressing those more complex area, which you can also join.
