Who We Are

Our Vision

We believe that investing in education is the single most effective way of giving young people the opportunity of a life without poverty. That's why our vision is for all students attending rural secondary schools across East Africa to receive a quality education. Each summer we invest hundreds of volunteer hours and tens of thousands of pounds in our partner schools to work towards this vision and ensure they can provide students with the best possible opportunities.

We're also proud to develop and stretch our UK volunteers, preparing them for careers in development, consulting, the public sector and beyond. Our vision is to give these volunteers an opportunity to push themselves, take on real responsibility and experience grassroots international development and charity management at its best.

Our Team

We are passionate about development and proud to put youth-led programmes at the forefront of our work. We are a team of young volunteers who challenge each other and ourselves to support and catalyze positive change in rural secondary schools in East Africa. Our volunteers drive and fuel EPAfrica, running everything from our summer project to fundraising, communications, finance and logistics. But we're more than that. We're also our partner schools, our teachers, our students and the communities we work in. Without their expertise, guidance and critical reflection, our programmes couldn't be the success they are.

Our History

EPAfrica’s involvement in East Africa stretches back to 1990 when Cambridge student Sam Barnett met Kisii pastor Mark Ayunga while traveling through the region. We've come a long way since then. Follow our journey below ...

Our Supporters

We owe special thanks to all the individuals and organisations that support us every year. In particular, we want to thank North South Travel and the Mercers' Company for their ongoing generous support.
