Active member of the Board of Directors
As a member of the Board of Directors you have a collective responsibility for the delivery of EPAfrica’s objectives, in line with the charity’s strategy. The Director of Fundraising will have a team of managers within their purview. The Director will need to set, monitor, and support the Managers’ objectives, in part through regular Committee meetings. You will also support these volunteers to grow and develop.
Chair of the Fundraising Committee
Each Director chairs a committee, made up of Managers, Officers and Associates. The committee structure empowers teams of volunteers as decision makers; there is collective ownership of delivery responsibilities. We want to promote both sustained and flexible volunteer opportunities to suit different kinds of volunteers. The committee structure enables autonomy and a clear offer of progression for those who want. It also allows committee members to work easily within their committee (for example, university Fundraising Support Officers working with the Events Manager) and and across committees (there is close collaboration between the Programme Manager and the Donor and Grants Manager).
As Director of Fundraising, you lead the Fundraising Committee and set its working norms. >>Read more about the Fundraising Committee>>

You would also be responsible for managing Fundraising Associates and utilising the Fundraising Committee Pool to deliver our objectives.
Portfolio of Responsibilities
Identifying and bidding for grants
Supporting the Donor and Grants Manager, and working with members of the Logistics and Delivery committee, apply for grants in the £1500-£15,000 range, supporting the charity’s current operations and expansion plans. EPAfrica already has a database of grants which can be used and built on.
Donor Relationships and Reporting
Regular donors are our lifeblood. Communications with and reporting to regular donors (via reporting platforms and other means) is a key ask for the Fundraising Committee.
Supporting Volunteer Fundraising
While grant funding allows us to offer additional money to Project Workers, the bulk of their investment in schools comes from their own fundraising efforts. The University Committees’ Fundraising Officers work directly with PWs to apply for grants, run events, and fundraise their total of around £2000 each. The Director oversees this process, providing support and setting deadlines.
Creating Fundraising Events
Supporting the Alumni and Events Manager, and working with the Comms team, design a yearly schedule of events that both bring the charity together and provide an opportunity for fundraising. Events can range from pub quizzes to Christmas galas. An important part of the work is sourcing sustainable low-cost venues.
Crowdfunding Campaigns
We’ve taken part in The Big Give and Little By Little national campaigns for several years, and there’s significant opportunity to grow our skills and income in this area, after we raised over £7000 in our own and matching funds through The Big Give in 2017.
Develop innovative ideas
As a small charity, EPAfrica is open to new ideas about how to retain a sustainable financial footing – the Fundraising Director can bring new ideas to the table.
Before applying for this role, please ensure that you have reviewed the Board of Directors overview, and the Fundraising Committee page.
